Amazing donations - we are overwhelmed!
Despite being relatively new, we are incredibly well supported. First and foremost, by our volunteers, who all give time, resources, £££ and their hearts and souls to this project. We are also very lucky to have the support of lots of regular donators who cook, bake and donate every week.
More recently, one of our team, Tracey Webb, had the fortune to come across the lovely Ashleigh and Zara at the Halfway House pub in Donisthorpe who have cooked lots of delicious home-made veggie soup and given us a huge donation (2 boot loads) of food containers, juice, pasta, soups, crisps and much more. They are also generous with fundraising ideas and offers to host for us.
Today we had a wonderful donation of 240 bottles of water from Bookers in Burton which is perfect (and essential) in this warm weather. We will be out and about distributing these to those who are homeless and have limited access to fresh water.
We've already mentioned the Co op in Kings Bromley but today we signed the paperwork on a twice weekly collection of food they can no longer sell but that is good to eat and well within all the food regs. As a registered food business with East Staffs and holders of food hygiene certificates, we are well acquainted with the rules on food handling and take very good care to follow them to the letter.
It's heartening to get such incredible support which reflects well on us as an organisation who just want to feed and support homeless people in Burton. No agenda, no politics, just people with a need to feed!
We run weekly sessions that are easy-going and light-hearted with a lovely atmosphere, created by our volunteers and the incredibly lovely people we feed and get to know better every week. If you'd like to know more, follow us on Facebook (@streetfoodburton) or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
